UNOWAS ET LA CEDEAO CONCLUENT UNE MISSION CONJOINTE EN GUINEE

Dakar, 28 février 2022- Le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général et Chef du Bureau des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest et le Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, M. Jean Claude Kassi Brou, Président de la Commission Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), et Mme Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Ministre des Affaires Étrangères du Ghana et Présidente du Conseil des ministres de la CEDEAO, ont conclu aujourd’hui une mission conjointe de deux jours en Guinée.
L’objectif de la mission était d’évaluer le processus de transition en cours, et de réitérer la solidarité de la communauté internationale avec les aspirations légitimes du peuple de Guinée pour une société stable et inclusive.
Dans le cadre de la mission, la délégation a été reçue en audience par le président de la Transition, le Colonel Mamady Doumbouya. Elle a également eu des entretiens avec le Premier Ministre, M. Mohamed Béavogui et le ministre des Affaires Etrangères, M. Morissanda Kouyaté, ainsi que le Conseil national de transition, et les membres du corps diplomatiques accrédités en Guinée.
La CEDEAO et UNOWAS ont salué la mise en place du Conseil National de Transition, et ont exhorté les autorités de la transition à adopter un chronogramme pour la restauration de l’ordre constitutionnel, tel que recommandé par la Conférence des chefs d'états et de gouvernements de la CEDEAO. Selon M. ANNADIF, les périodes de transition n'ont pas vocation à résoudre toutes les difficultés que rencontre un pays, mais à poser les jalons qui permettront progressivement la mise en œuvre des solutions adéquates.
La délégation conjointe CEDEAO-UNOWAS a réaffirmé l’engagement des deux organisations à soutenir les Guinéens dans leurs efforts en faveur du retour à l’ordre constitutionnel et de la stabilité de la Guinée. "L'expérience a prouvé l'efficacité de l'action des Nations unies et des organisations régionales lorsqu'elles coopèrent étroitement, comme ce fut le cas pour la présente mission conjointe avec la CEDEAO" a affirmé le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général.

UNOWAS AND ECOWAS CONCLUDE A JOINT MISSION TO GUINEA
Dakar, 28 February 2022- The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, Mr. Jean Claude Kassi Brou, President of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS), and Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana and President of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, concluded today a two-day joint mission to Guinea.
The objective of the mission was to assess the ongoing transition process, and to reiterate the solidarity of the international community with the legitimate aspirations of the people of Guinea for a stable and inclusive society.
As part of the mission, the delegation was received in audience by the President of the Transition, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya. It also held talks with Prime Minister Mohamed Béavogui and Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté, as well as the National Transitional Council and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Guinea.
ECOWAS and UNOWAS welcomed the establishment of the National Transitional Council and urged the transitional authorities to adopt a timetable for the restoration of constitutional order, as recommended by the ECOWAS Assembly of Heads of State and Government. According to Mr. ANNADIF, transition periods are not intended to solve all the difficulties faced by a country, but to lay the foundations that will gradually allow the implementation of appropriate solutions.
The joint ECOWAS-UNOWAS delegation reaffirmed the commitment of both organizations to support Guineans in their efforts to restore constitutional order and stability in Guinea. "Experience has proven the effectiveness of the action of the United Nations and regional organizations when they cooperate closely, as was the case for this joint mission with ECOWAS," said the Special Representative of the Secretary-General.
